What you'll practise
The IELTS Listening test consists of four sections of increasing difficulty. Each section tests a different type of listening task.
Section 1 — Social context
A conversation between two speakers in an everyday social context, often involving form completion or note-taking.
Section 2 — Monologue
A single speaker talking about a non-academic topic, such as a facility, service, or community event.
Section 3 — Academic discussion
A discussion between up to four people in an educational or training context, often with multiple-choice tasks.
Section 4 — Academic lecture
A monologue on an academic subject requiring note completion and short-answer tasks.
Timed conditions
Each test runs under the same time constraints as the actual exam, including reading-time allowances.
